Facebook adds five Reactions to the Like button
Feeling outraged, tickled or touched by something you spotted on Facebook? The new Reaction Features include Haha, Love, Wow, Sad, Angry along with Like.

The social network launched a pilot of Reactions a year ago in Ireland and Spain with users choosing between seven emoticons. The new feature was a result of user demands for greater expression instead of the plain “Like” button, which has been retained. People wanted to express empathy and make it comfortable to share a wider range of emotions. Desktop users have to hover over the Like button to see the Reaction image options.
“We understand that this is a big change, and want to be thoughtful about rolling this out”, Krug said.
“We also looked at how people are already commenting on posts and the top stickers and emoticons as signals for the types of reactions people are already using to determine which reactions to offer”, Krug said.
Krug said Facebook plans to pay close attention to user feedback to determine if the current batch of Reactions are the ones users actually want. Facebook has launched an update to add Reactions feature alongside Like button.
In a post about the rollout, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg explains that these options are the company’s response to the long-requested “dislike” button that would allow users to appropriately react to the not-so-positive news inundating their feeds.
We’ve finally heard you and we’re working on this and we will deliver something that meets the needs of the larger community.
To add a reaction on your mobile, hold down the “like” button, and scroll through the icons to select the one you want to use.

“These are important moments where you need the power to share more than ever, and a “Like” might not be the best way to express yourself”.
