Facebook announces enhanced security for WhatsApp

Unless you’re handing out your password and phone to people, you and the recipient are the only people who can read your messages – even WhatsApp can’t see what you’re talking about.Huang said: “It is important to note that in group chats, all users should have their WhatsApp updated or the messages would not be encrypted”.

In order to reach Newegg’s customer support representatives through Messenger, all that one needs to do is to drop by Newegg’s Facebook Page and message the support team.

But it still doesn’t mean that WhatsApp wont retain some information data that could potentially be used by hackers or oppressive regimes.

Whatsapp has previously offered end-to-end encryption on text-only messages between two users.

Apple is no different from Facebook, which owns WhatsApp following a 2014 takeover that saw Mark Zuckerberg part with up to $21 billion. So your calls and messages made from WhatsApp are secure now, so cybercriminals and hackers can no longer try to sneak into your WhatsApp calls and converstations.

Apple also uses end-to-end encryption for its iMessage service, but WhatsApp is a step ahead.

Moves by technology firms to implement the kind of encryption where even the companies themselves don’t have “keys” to unlock data have unleashed criticism in law enforcement circles claiming this creates “warrant-proof” spaces for criminals and others. The Group Chats, Personal Chats, Attachments, Voice Calls, Media, and videos will come under the End-to-End encryption. WhatsApp said in February it had 1 billion users.

Alternatively, law enforcement could get access to WhatsApp messages if a suspect divulged his or her phone’s passcode or the passcode could be obtained another way.

“Encryption is one of the most important tools governments, companies, and individuals have to promote safety and security in the new digital age. I grew up in the USSR during communist rule and the fact that people couldn’t speak freely is one of the reasons my family moved to the United States”.
