Facebook Announces New Wind Powered Data Center In Texas
“When you think of the old data centers I was in as a boy, with the tapes and print cards, to the new data centers of today-it’s really incredible to see the evolution”. Construction on the first phase is expected to be complete in June of 2016.

Facebook scored an “A” in Greenpeace’s 2015Click Clean Scorecard, which rates internet companies on their sustainability efforts. This was a very efficient cost model. “This is probably one of the most ambitious academic projects we’ve ever undertaken at TCU”.
It’s no secret that Facebook has been expanding faster than other tech companies.
The Forth Worth data center will be Facebook’s fifth. The Menlo Park, California, company’s only overseas data center is in Sweden.
A spokesperson for Facebook confirmed that more than half a billion dollars would be invested in the project, which will upon completion create around 40 jobs.
Perot said the project couldn’t he come together if it weren’t for the work and cooperation of Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price.
“200 MW is more energy than we will need for the foreseeable future, and we’re proud to have played a role in bringing this project to Texas”, said Ken Patchett, director of data center operations for the west region. This isn’t Facebook’s first foray into using renewable energy; its data center in Iowa is also powered with energy from a nearby wind farm. “On a daily basis, there are 2 billion photos posted”. Facebook has already chalked out the details with regional energy providers for procuring as much as 200MW of wind power for this facility.
“We found all of those things here”, he said. “We do it bigger and better”. David Berzina with the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce says the company has an open-sharing process that lets the world in on its environmentally-friendly protocols.
