Facebook Celebrates 50th Anniversary of ‘Star Trek’ With Custom Reactions

Founder FRED JACOBS takes to the company JACOBLOG to note, “today is the 50th anniversary of STAR TREK, the seminal TV series that first debuted on NBC in 1966”. Spock’s face is used for “Wow”, which seems odd considering that would be the last reaction Spock would ever have.
Facebook has rolled out a new suite of “like” buttons to mark the 50th anniversary of the first Star Trek episode, TechCrunch reports.
Subscribe to Orbital, The Gadgets 360 podcast via iTunes or RSS and just hit the play button below to listen to our iPhone 7 special episode. We also wanted to honor the original design and spirit of Reactions, so we needed visual cues that were easy to identify at a glance, like Geordi’s visor.
Are you ready to boldly go where no quizzer has gone before?
Starting with “Star Trek: The Motion Picture, “in 1979, the franchise has now spanned almost four decades and a total of 13 films and multiple television versions, including “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Voyager”.

The show, which followed the exploits of a 23rd century crew of interstellar explorers, distinguished itself with its intricate plot lines that often featured prescient social commentary, and its colorful cast of characters including the logical half-human Spock, the compassionate Dr. “Bones” McCoy and the purely passionate Captain James T. Kirk. For those lucky fans, the new Star Trek theme will be up in the United States and Canada – on both desktop and the mobile apps – “for a limited time”. Without mentioning specifics, she said additional experiences will focus on “community and moment-driven events”.
