Facebook celebrating its users’ friendships for its birthday

Created in a Harvard dorm room in 2004, Facebook has more than 12,600 employees worldwide. However, the number of monthly active users is wildly inaccurate; but nevertheless, daily active users are much more accurate and can be used to give an assessment of the paltform’s popularity.

Those logging on to Facebook today will be able to watch a video featuring their friends.

The company has also announced that it’s user base has more than doubled in the last five years of operation. According to Tech Crunch the CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, “rather than having this birthday that focuses on us, we should make sure that the world focuses on what’s important”. And today, as it celebrates its 12th anniversary, Facebook has a way of commemorating it through what they call as “Friends Day”.

On February 4, 2016, Facebook turns 12 years old. Using the photos you have posted on the social media network, Facebook has gathered these memories with your friends and compiled them into an interesting video. Earlier this week, we hosted an intimate Friends Day event where 18 members of the Facebook community with incredible stories, including GirlCrew, were invited to come to our Menlo Park headquarters.

The new video can be viewed privately or shared with friends. From 3.74 degrees to 3.57 degrees, the degree of separation has seen a decrease and this depicts how successfully Facebook has been in connecting people on a global platform.

Reaction to Friends Day seems to have been mostly positive. These packs are available to download via Facebook Messenger or at Facebook.com/stickers.

Between these not-quite-exact calculations and the fact that Facebook is missing the vast majority of the world’s population in its study, these numbers aren’t representative of of every human connection.
