Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Sees Big Future For Virtual Reality
Zuckerberg also expressed excitement about the way virtual reality video will transform social networking.

The team members will work with Oculus and other teams at Facebook to establish the foundation for the future social VR experiences on all platforms. “And now we’re entering into a world where that’s video”, said Zuckerberg.
But, what attendees didn’t know was that while they were engrossed in a virtual reality, Mark Zuckerberg was making a surprise entrance right beside them. There are several hardware and software challenges that must be resolved, however, the progress was encouraging and the team at Facebook was really excited about VR technology which will allow people to get connected in novel ways. While sharing some virtual reality statistics, Zuckerberg mentioned that more than 1 million hours of videos had already been watched on Gear VR headsets. The blog post also says that the social media company is also investing in “social VR” as they see that VR experiences will be something that will help people connect and share in the future. Facebook’s Oculus VR headset is set to come out next month.
The photograph taken at Samsung’s “Galaxy Unpacked” event shows Zuckerberg walking towards the stage as the audience on his left is engrossed in their respective “virtual” world through individual VR headsets.
It added that on its own service: “Millions of people watch 360 videos on Facebook every day”.
“We’re going to do our first trials at full scale a bit later this year”, said Zuckerberg, speaking at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Mr. Zuckerberg made an appearance Sunday night at Samsung’s conference announcement.
Facebook’s Oculus Rift, a head-mounted display for immersive technology, is still in development. Oculus is the connection between Facebook and Samsung. In addition, users have already uploaded 20,000 360-degree videos to Facebook since a year ago.
Launched in 2014, Facebook is running the Internet.org programme across over 17 countries providing basic Internet access to over one billion people.

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Samsung debuted the featured technology – its first 360 degree camera, the Gear 360.
