Facebook co-founder pledging $20 million to defeat Trump

Moskovitz broke down where the $20 million would be spent, but the two biggest contributions are going towards a super PAC run by the League of Conservation Voters, an environmentalist group running advertising and canvassing campaigns and to For Our Future PAC, an effort by organized labor and environmentalists to run a consolidated, high-powered field program, both of which are receiving $5 million each.

Moskovitz and his wife, Cari Tuna, posted an explanation for their donations in a post on Medium, saying this is the first time they have either endorsed a presidential candidate or donated to a presidential campaign.

Moskovitz, 32, a college roommate of Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg, has only donated to one other candidate in the past, giving $5,200 to NY congressional candidate Sean Eldridge, who is married to another Facebook co-founder.

‘If Donald Trump wins, the country will fall backward, and become more isolated from the global community, ‘ he continued.

“The Republican Party, and Donald Trump in particular, is running on a zero-sum vision, stressing a false contest between their constituency and the rest of the world”, they wrote. We believe their positions, especially on immigration, which purport to improve the lives of Americans, would in practice hurt citizens and non-citizens alike.

Other donations will be split between a joint fundraising committee for Hillary Clinton; the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee; the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee; a political arm of MoveOn.Org; Color of Change PAC; and “several nonpartisan voter registration and GOTV efforts”.

“In comparison, Donald Trump’s promises to this group are quite possibly a deliberate con, an attempt to rally energy and support without the ability or intention to deliver”.

“As a nation, we need to figure out how to bring everyone with us, and we believe the Democratic platform now is more aligned with ensuring that happens”, they added.

If you’re wracking your brain to figure out which Facebook founder Moskovitz is, you might think of dinosaurs.

The $20 million donation puts Moskovitz and Tuna in the ranks of mega-donors like Tom Steyer, a former hedge fund manager who has reportedly put over .5 million into this year’s campaign. Each is getting $5 million.

In addition to being a founder of Facebook, Moskovitz is also the co-founder of Asana, an app for helping teams track their work.
