Facebook-Definitely Not a Media Company-Will Broadcast the Presidential Debates
Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) also reported that the deal with Bloomberg is exclusive, which means the old relationship with CBS for the primary debates is over. According to Variety, Young Turks and Complex News will use YouTube’s mobile live-streaming capabilities to report live from each of the debate venues. Now, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are set to livestream the debates, perhaps signifying an important new era in terms of how United States voters process the presidential race. The company has announced today that the partnership has been extended to include the presidential debates. Another detail to remember is that, during the first Presidential debate of 2012, 10 million tweets addressing the subject crossed the internet.

Twitter is continuing its push into live events and TV with the announcement it will be live streaming the United States presidential debates. This year, you have the chance to get involved with the debates as social media will play a large role. Approximately 10 million tweets were sent during the first US presidential debate of the 2012 election cycle, the company said, which was the most watched USA presidential debate in history. ABC News teamed up with Facebook Live for this summer’s Republican and Democratic national conventions.
Its partnership with Bloomberg Television is enabling Twitter to provide a live stream of the USA presidential debates.
To harness some of this excitement, Twitter plans to stream Bloomberg Television’s live broadcast of the brawls directly on its platform. It’s a step in the right direction, and we’ll find out more after the first debate takes place next week. The stream will also include special Bloomberg Politics programming thirty minutes before and after each debate, which will be led by Bloomberg Politics Managing Editors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann. The Fed’s decision to hold rates comes as much needed relief for Twitter, since it’s the company’s global revenue that’s driving growth right now.
