Facebook friend ‘steals’ Australian woman’s prize money through selfie
A woman who posted a selfie of her winning Melbourne Cup ticket – including its barcode – has been fleeced of her A$825 (NZ$895) winnings.

Chantelle, from Perth, placed a winning bet on Prince of Penzance for Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup, at odds of 100-1. She posted the following photo to Facebook boasting to friends.
It seems someone on Facebook saw the image, complete with the ticket’s details, and used the photo to claim the AUD$900 (US$643) from an automated cash machine by scanning the code from the snapshot. You’re a massive d–.
“Chantelle posted a selfie of it on Facebook and I posted just a photo of the ticket on Facebook itself”.
She told local radio station Triple M: “I’d never bet before so I went with some friends and put some money on a few different races”.
Unfortunately, a Facebook friend of her, apparently not a real-life friend, used the barcode to claim Chantelle’s winnings, making her the biggest loser in Australia now.
The good news was that my husband, Ray, drew Prince of Penzance in the golf club sweep.
Western Australian police have reportedly tracked down where the money was claimed and they believe they can locate the person responsible.
She added: “We had already been up to the guy to claim our bet and when we found out we won so naturally I took a selfie to show my friends”.
“It’s really disappointing to think that one of our friends could’ve have [cheated] us out of our money”.

It’s yet to be seen if Chantelle pays the ultimate price for her stupidity.
