Facebook is launching 360 degree live videos

This is similar to Facebook Live except that it’s designed for Instagram‘s platform and would appear in the Instagram Stories section.

Facebook’s first partner for live 360 video is cable network National Geographic, which will use the feature Tuesday for a broadcast as part of promoting its “Mars” space-travel series. Since Instagram’s live videos disappear once broadcasting ends, this can be ideal for exclusive events such as product launches, unboxing events, and behind-the-scenes takes. Tap that and you’ll start streaming.

We weren’t initially given a release date for the feature; all we knew was that it would be rolling out globally over the following weeks.

According to a blog post published today by by product manager Supratik Lahiri and software engineer Chetan Gupta, Facebook will be releasing its first ever live, 360 degree video through a partnership with National Geographic.

You can now talk to your followers live and read comments from them in real-time.

Facebook announced today that it is bringing live, 360-degree video to its platform.

However, the biggest feature that sets Instagram Live apart from the other apps is that once the host is finished broadcasting live, the video will not be available to watch or share again.

Mi Live is easy to use and has got most things right, in terms of the features and useability. Many thanks, Instagram; punctuality is always appreciated.

After being viewed, the photos and videos will disappear from friend’s inboxes and the sender will be able to see if the recipient replayed them or took a screenshot. If you’re in the U.S., live video should show up on Android and iOS within the next few days.

Why this matters: Earlier this year, Instagram gave us the impression that it was trying to become a Snapchat clone after it launched Stories, the 10-second video clips that disappear after a day. Then you can film yourself lip synching in the vehicle and you don’t have to see what any grump has to say about it.
