In a statement provided to TechCrunch, the social networking giant said it was examining reports the app continually runs background processes even when it is disabled – significantly running down the battery life.

“We’re looking into this and hope to have a fix in place soon”.
“The fact that a company the size of Facebook can’t optimize energy consumption of their iOS app is simply ridiculous”.
One of the new features in iOS 9 is the ability to not just see what’s draining your battery, but also how it’s doing it. That includes granularity like breaking out screen on time, background data usage, etc.
The Facebook app for Android is more complicated to diagnose given the many versions of Android there are in the wild, but a recent study by antivirus company AVG found Facebook’s app to have the worst “overall performance impact” for Android users. “They’re letting down each and every one of their customers by letting such an issue remain in their app. Battery drain should be a priority, not an afterthought”.
iPhone battery life is the bane of all ours lives.
While no cause has been established just yet, speculation has suggested silent audio on auto-playing videos continuing to run in the background once the app is closed, may be the culprit.
The result is that Facebook can end up eating more battery power than an app which you spend much more active screen time on.
“It should become a Facebook priority to address this”, he roared.
I complained a few months ago about Facebook eating through the charge on my iPhone and explained how you can sleuth out for yourself what’s taking the biggest hit on your battery life.
On October 11, a Medium post by Matt Galligan showed the Facebook app accounting for the majority of his iPhone’s battery drain by running in the background.
You can check Facebook’s background usage settings by going to Settings Facebook Settings Background App Refresh.
