Facebook Launches New Tools to Appeal to Bloggers

It started out experimental, but it turns out that Facebook’s Notes update was a success and they’re now officially rolling it out for everyone to indulge in and enjoy. You can also format your text with headers, quotes or bullets.

Last month, people were noticing an updated version of Facebook Notes, which seemed to give the feature more of a Medium feel.

If you’re stuck for inspiration, Facebook suggests recapping your summer holiday, voicing your opinion on something in the news or sharing a recipe with your friends.

Notes are now an even better way to write a longer post and share with anyone – whether it’s a small group of friends or everyone on Facebook. That makes Notes relatively pointless, but Facebook hasn’t given up on the feature yet.

The text can be further customized with the basic options of bold, italic and underline for a more elegant touch, though not accessible through built-in buttons, and users will have to make use of the well known keyboard shortcuts. Notably, though, Zuckerberg and other public figures on the platform are broadcasting with status updates, not Notes. However, the update transforms Notes into a tiny CMS within the Facebook ecosystem. According to Mashable, the new and visually-appealing layout of Notes is strikingly similar to Twitter co-founder Ev Williams’ blogging startup, Medium. The refreshed version of Notes is available to everyone. No word from Facebook if this will remain in the future.

You can now only create new notes on the Web, but you can still view them on mobile devices.
