Facebook leads social pack in US, Twitter sputters, study finds
The rise of Pinterest and Instagram almost 31 percent of online adults now use Pinterest, up from 15 percent just three years ago.

Twitter usage was also flat since last fall, while Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram all saw slight bumps of 3 percentage points or less. According to the survey, 70 percent and 59 percent of users use Facebook and Instagram on a daily basis.
Facebook is still the favored social network for adults.
Tumblr is popular among younger adults with 20% of those between the ages of 18 and 29 reporting they use it, Pew found.
Around 87pc of all desktop, mobile and tablet social media traffic in Ireland now comes from Facebook, a big jump on last year’s figure of 62pc.
The stock is down more than 30 percent since Twitter’s July 28 earnings report, when it warned that boosting its user growth rate will take a long time.
Still, 94% of Indians have a Facebook account, says We Are Social, so the social media platform should still be a priority.
Twitter’s battered shares dipped below their IPO price on Thursday amid ongoing investor concerns about the company’s ability to grow its user base.
While the number of people using these services hasn’t moved much in the past year or so, those who do are stopping in a lot more often. In comparison, only 38 percent of Twitter users check the service once a day, and another 21 percent tune in at least once a week.
The survey mirrored the global picture for the major social networks.
Beyond social-media platforms, the study found 36% of smartphone owners used messaging apps such as Kik or iMessage, and 17% use apps with self-deleting messaging, such as Snapchat. Although the research was conducted via telephone interviews, with a sample of 1,907 American citizens between March 17 and April 12, we believe it is accurate.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is still the king of the social networks. Users still get confused when they open Twitter, while many others who signed up could not comprehend the social network, and subsequently abandoned it. Adult usage of the two platforms has more than doubled since 2012.
On the other hand, Twitter has been struggling since some time, to increase usage and user growth.

Waggener Edstrom noted that the overall engagement with paid advertising was at 68%, but Japan actually fell below that mark, landing at 60%.
