“Integrating with the Facebook Live API is a natural extension for Cape”, said Thomas Finsterbusch, chief technology officer of Cape. The Live API allows for media organizations to embed Facebook streaming into their broadcasts and enables third party hardware-like drones or a GoPro-to stream to Facebook. People watching a live broadcast can add live emoji reactions, similar to adding reactions to a news feed.

The Facebook Live teaser was pushed on Wednesday, April 6th, and has already captured over 10M+ views, making the top five list for viral videos of the week, according to Visible Measures.

For those living under a rock, the latest addition to the virtual multitool that is Facebook came in the form of a live streaming service. He acknowledges that it will take time to develop that, but it’s part of the company’s 10-year game plan. “It makes Facebook a one-stop shop for users who want to consume news, live events and connect with family and friends”.

– Facebook Live Map on desktop will be available to 60 countries to share live video, along with metrics for Facebook Pages.

The device, shaped like a flying saucer, has a 17-camera array and can capture images and videos in 360-degrees – just ripe for the world of VR we are entering into.

Right now, Facebook doesn’t have pre-roll ads in front of its videos, like YouTube does, but as it moves towards raking in video advertising, it needs to get its freebooting problem under control, to avoid rewarding content thieves with ad revenue.

But what does the new apparatus mean for government? At first glance, another way to post video content online hardly seems revolutionary.

“You can treat it like an ordinary camera”, said Facebook engineer Brian Cabral in an interview with Wired. But be aware that you might not get a flawless cut. If you’d rather record and publish later, the Mevo also works as a standard video camera.
