Facebook Reactions Get a New Look for Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary

Facebook users who have liked the official Star Trek page on the site are getting a few special treats to mark the half-century milestone.

“I know how old I feel, so the idea that this thing endures is incredible”.

The original “Trek” program starred the legendary pairing of William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as Spock. “There’s something I’m not doing, ‘” Shatner told CBS News. But in the winter, though we still get people visiting from all over the world, the business is so limited. I love it when Star Trek is bad, because it is so good at being terrible.

“It’s fascinating to plumb the subtext of Star Trek”, Altman says. “This, too, shall pass, and we hopefully learn from our mistakes”.

Today, after five decades of living long and prospering, Facebook is honoring the 50th anniversary of the series with a custom set of reaction buttons.

One of the awesome things that Star Trek achieved was to inspire the creation (or at least spark the imagination) of technologies which have changed the modern tech world.

The movie follows the exploits of four astronauts – one of whom is an animatronic marionette resembling Kirk – who travel to the moon to rescue missing comrades. In fact, the original series was originally described as Wagon Train to the Stars.

The commercial success of the first Star Trek movie would spawn other films and a new TV series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, although Roddenberry’s involvement with those projects was diminished.

Star Trek: Discovery premieres on CBS in January 2017, before moving to the CBS All Access streaming service for the remainder of its 13-episode first season.
