We see a world where video is first, with video at the heart of all of our apps and services.
Earlier Facebook added 220 million monthly active users in 2015, bringing the total audience to 1.71 billion users. Mobile daily active users reached 1.03 billion, 22 percent higher than previous year.
In its second quarter 2016 earnings announcement today, Facebook revealed it now has 1.71 billion monthly active users (up 15 percent year over year) and 1.57 billion mobile users (up 20 percent year over year).
The number of visits via mobile has increased by 22% year on year and overall daily visitors rose 17% to 1.13bn in the three months to the end of June. The company said mobile ad revenue was $5.42 billion, 81% year over year, topping the $4.84 billion expected. Despite the miss on earnings, however, shares of the social network surged in after-hours trades.
Mobile is a remarkably important segment in the online advertising industry, and Facebook is rapidly growing in this area.
Facebook’s user metrics look even more impressive when compared against rival Twitter (NYSE:TWTR). Facebook has built an arsenal for this battle: Its messaging apps WhatsApp and Messenger both have more than 1 billion monthly active users.
The social network company generated $2.06 billion in net income in Q2, up 186% from the period a year ago, on revenues of $6.44 billion, up 59%.
Mobile ads now account for 74% of the company’s advertising revenue.
Facebook crushed earnings again on Wednesday, delivering the fastest rate of revenue growth in two years, a whopping 59%.
