Facebook’s New Personal Way to Say ‘Happy Birthday’
So Facebook is pushing people to record more intimate greetings with its new Birthday Cam feature launching on iOS.

The company is releasing a “Happy Birthday Cam”, which you’ll find on your friends’ profiles when you visit them on their birthdays. The feature lets you record 15-second videos for your friends on their big day.
Thanks to Facebook we now get more birthday wishes than ever before, but somehow the generic “HBD” well-wishes aren’t quite the same as receiving a text or a call from friends or family.
Facebook knows that you probably aren’t interacting much with your friends when it comes to their birthdays.
On Monday, you will see a prompt on friends’ profiles when you wish them a happy birthday.
In 2013, Facebook introduced a birthday notification system. In instances where over five friends have birthdays together, typing “Happy Birthday!” on each friend’s timeline through the homepage tab happens to be a fairly impersonal experience. The videos that are posted appear directly on the user’s wall.
This video includes clips from Facebook and images from Getty Images. To encourage use of videos, it is tapping its 1.6 billion strong user-base, which contributed to over 100 million birthday greetings in January 2016.
Birthday celebrations have been part of Facebook’s efforts to rope in more users since the early days of the social network.

Each video that is made for the birthday boy or girl will be posted separately to the wall of the user.
