Korryn Gaines’s five-year-old son was also shot in a limb during a stand-off with police at their home in Randallstown, Maryland.
Armacost said Gaines espoused anti-government views but did not know if she belonged to a specific anti-government group. The video has since been taken down. The videos were reportedly shared by Gaines on Facebook but were then removed. The suit identifies Gaines’ father as Ryan Gaines, a police dispatcher. “They trying to kill us”, the boy says. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for treatment. Her followers were encouraging her not to comply with negotiators’ requests that she surrender peacefully, authorities said.
Korryn Gaines, 23, was killed after three police officers attempted to serve arrest warrants to her and her boyfriend, Kareem Courtney, 39, at her apartment in Randallstown, near Baltimore.
They waited outside the door for about 10 minutes, Johnson said during a Monday press conference.
According to police, they acquired a key from the landlord after the two failed to open the door.
The incident lasted hours, with Gaines and Baltimore County police officers locked in a standoff. Allegedly, records show that Gaines purchased the gun a year ago.
“The officers retreated to the hallway outside the apartment and called for additional support”, the spokesperson said.
“The male suspect ran from the apartment with a 1-year-old boy-one of two children in in the apartment with the couple-and was apprehended by police”.
“The armed woman remained inside with the five-year-old boy, and a barricade situation began at about 9.40am and continued throughout the afternoon”. Gaines allegedly shifted between calmness and agitation during the encounter.
The standoff ended in the shootout about 3 p.m., police said.
“If you don’t leave, I’m going to kill you. I’m going to kill you”, Johnson quoted Gaines as saying.
Police Chief Jim Johnson said Tuesday that the department made the emergency request to have Gaines’ social media accounts suspended after she posted videos online showing the standoff.
Officers responded with further shots and the woman was struck.
Police didn’t say why the first officer fired.
The 5-year-old boy was hit in the arm during the crossfire. The boy’s exact location during the gunfire is also unclear, he said. The officers said they did not receive a response, but could hear the sounds of a man, woman and crying child from inside the apartment.
Authorities have said they don’t know if the officers involved were wearing body cameras.
Johnson said Gaines’ Facebook and Instagram accounts will be restored after police have preserved whatever evidence can be gathered from the pages.
The officers will be placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings. Their names will be released 48 hours after the incident, in accordance with the department’s contract with the Fraternal Order of Police. That’s when Gaines threatened officers, reports say. Police said she was pulled over because instead of a license plate, she had a cardboard tag that said: “Any government official who compromises this pursuit of happiness and right to travel will be held criminally responsible and fined, as this is a natural right and freedom”.
She was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. A failure-to-appear warrant was filed when she did not show up to court July 13, court records show.

The warrant against Courtney was related to a previous domestic assault incident that Johnson said was reported by Gaines. Why he left with only one child remains unknown.
