Facebook takes a swing at Pinterest with Chrome extensions
Other buttons, which invite Internet surfers to “share”, “follow”, and “save to Facebook”, have also been redesigned but will retain the “f” logo. The company has launched a Chrome extension that adds a “Save to Facebook” button to Google’s browser.

Facebook has revamped its Like button and other social plugin buttons with a cleaner mobile friendly design. Facebook is swapping the classic lowercase F on the left side of the button and replacing it with a thumbs up – the icon people use to Like things on the Facebook app. And the number of likes is being added to the right side of the button, rather than appearing inside a chat bubble to the right of the button.
The Share to Facebook extension puts a Facebook icon in your browser next to the address bar. According to Facebook, more than 300 million people use its saving feature every month. If you have the Comments Plugin installed on your site, comments on a web article will sync the conversation with its Instant Article equivalent. Facebook says 30 percent of “like” button impressions now come from mobile devices, a vast increase from when the buttons were first designed. The new Share Chrome Extension can be clicked from your Chrome’s browser bar to open a News Feed story composer.
Instant Articles will now be able to sport the new Like, Comment, and Share buttons at the bottom of posts, with clicks properly aggregated into the total Like and Share counts. This way you can visit Facebook to find a list of articles you’ve saved and easily return to them. Although third-party plugins that accomplish the same task already exist, Facebook clearly wants to streamline the experience with officially supported extensions.

The extensions are direct strikes at Pinterest, which is trying to get more people to share and save content through its tile-based interface.
