Business Insider reported, “Facebook has been working on it for awhile”.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s co-founder and chief executive announced Tuesday that Facebook would develop a “dislike” button.
But over time the company realized that Facebook’s more than 1.4 billion users just wanted to express empathy.
Zuckerberg also seemed to rule out Disliking on Facebook late past year, saying: “Some people have asked for a Dislike button so they can say something isn’t good, and we’re not going to do that”.
Zuckerberg said creating the new interaction is “surprisingly complicated” but testing was expected to begin soon before a wider roll out.
Facebook has resisted adding a “dislike” button on the theory it would discourage people from sharing posts – or even that it would engender misunderstandings or animosity among friends.
Facebook user should like this – they might soon have dislike button. This is the first time the company has admitted the button is in development.
Zuckerberg, worth in excess of £28bn, has not revealed when the “Dislike” button will be released. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004, initially as an exclusive network for Harvard students. Namely, Zuckerberg stated in the Q&A that “we don’t want to turn Facebook into a forum where people are voting up or down on people’s posts”. Users don’t want to “like” those items, but right now, have no other option.
It is not entirely clear whether the new button will actually be a “dislike” button or another emotion.

“I suspect it will mainly be used to express mild disapproval, or to express solidarity when someone posts about a negative event like a death or a loss”.
