Facebook to introduce happiness, laughter and anger ‘Like’ buttons

The move comes just weeks after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the company was examining alternatives to the “Like” button.

Facebook is set to test out a new “Reactions” button that provides a greater range of emotion-based responses than the current Like system.

This new feature is now rolling out to users across the world, but we know this because major publications like Engadget and TechCrunch have broke the news, as we’re still waiting for an official announcement from Facebook. Then there’s a heart, for when users “love” something, we assume, followed by the standard emoji for laughing, happy, surprised, sad, and angry. If successful, we can see the social network bringing more emotions as time goes on – but hopefully not too many.

The reaction to and use of the new emojis and “Like” alternatives in Spain and Ireland will be monitored by Facebook over the coming days to see if the changes should be rolled out.

A spokesperson said the new options will be available to Irish users from Friday.

Remember the recent rumors about Facebook considering a “dislike” button?

Over eleven years after it was first launched, it seems Facebook is finally doing something about it, if Endgadget in Spain is to be believed.

We’ve been hearing for awhile that Facebook is considering a dislike button – but that never seemed very likely as it would just promote negative reactions to things and potentially turn the social service into something like the horrorshow of YouTube.

People have been asking for the feature as a way to give a suitable reaction to bad news when it’s put on Facebook.
