Facebook will stop reminding you about your ex and other unwelcome memories

Well, thankfully, Facebook has introduced filters for what could be a time capsule from days better left forgotten, letting you filter out certain people or certain dates, or even periods of time. Forbes has written an “R.I.P.” note on his friend’s memorial page after he learned about the suicide but Facebook had to bring up “an in-your-face reminder of what happened, and it dredges up old memories and feelings”. A few users may even avoid features like “On This Day” because they don’t want something painful to pop up. Just click the Preferences button in the header, and you’ll be able to filter specific people or dates you’d rather not see. Add the dates and/or people, and Facebook will make sure not to present any types of the aforementioned content in its nostalgic snippets. “As a result, everyone has various kinds of memories that can be surfaced – good, bad, and everything in between”.

If you are a person who prefers to live in the present and not look back, you can also turn off “On This Day” notifications so you never have to be relive these moments.

You can see your On This Day page in several ways: by searching for “On This Day”, clicking on the On This Day bookmark, or going to facebook.com/onthisday.

Only you can see your On This Day feature, unless you choose to share a memory with your Facebook friends.

It’s a nice little update that lets you finally take control of what Facebook resurfaces, and of course, you’re still in control of re-sharing with friends and families.
