It may need two months to remove the debris of Tampaco Foils Factory which caught fire following explosions in Tongi BSCIC area on Saturday, Brigadier General ASM Mahmud Hasan, commander of the army team conducting rescue operation, said today.

Around 100 people were working at the factory on Saturday when the fire caused by an explosion in the boiler room tore through the four-storey structure on the outskirts on the capital Dhaka. “We need to move a huge amount of debris otherwise searching is not possible”, he said.

Another firefighter said he feared more bodies were still inside. The accident had claimed as many as 1100 lives.

Tampaco Foils, which owns the five-storey factory, packages various items for several global brands, including Nestle and British American Tobacco.

“We will find out the responsible people behind this disaster and will take all necessary and legal actions”, Ahmed told AFP.

The location of the boiler in the building was also being scrutinised.
