Falcons’ Devonta Freeman: Still in first phase of concussion protocol

The Falcons are preparing to deploy Tevin Coleman on Sunday in place of the injured Devonta Freeman. Rookie Tevin Coleman will serve as the feature back and be a solid RB2 if Freeman is inactive on Sunday.

Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson, who has a hamstring injury, was also held out of Wednesday’s practice.

Freeman missed practice all week, including Friday’s, meaning he wasn’t cleared in time to play.

Freeman had three carries for 43 yards before leaving last week’s 24-21 loss to Indianapolis due to the concussion. The Falcons signed Shayne Graham on Thursday to fill in for Bryant. It would be a devastating blow for a struggling Falcons team if Freeman is not in the backfield on Sunday. Coleman managed only 48 yards on 17 carries. Coleman is strong start at the second running back position in most leagues, and he looks to be an impact player for the Falcons this upcoming Sunday. Head coach Dan Quinn noted Wednesday that Freeman remains in the first phase of the NFL’s concussion protocol, according to Garafolo’s report.
