Falcons’ Roddy White upbeat after meeting with Quinn

Hours after the ESPN.com article was released, White attempted to clarify his comments in a telephone interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “My role is what it is”. I think Dan Quinn talks about all the time regardless of what the situation, or who we’re going against we don’t make anything up.

White said Thursday he missed Wednesday’s practice to be with his mother, who had surgery.

The Falcons, who won only 10 games the last two seasons, are 4-0 for their new coach.

White, 33, said he’s taking a positive outlook into Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins.

What Quinn said is the crux of this whole ordeal: the opportunities have not presented themselves yet. I’ve talked to DQ and we’ve gotten past that.

White met with Quinn before Thursday’s practice.

White holds franchise records for career catches, yards receiving and touchdown catches.

“It was a much-needed conversation and I walked out of there with my head up”, White said. “It went really, really well”.

Look at last week’s game against the Texans where Leonard Hankerson had 100 yards on the day and Julio Jones didn’t even crack 50. Running back Tevin Coleman is expected to return from a rib injury this week, giving quarterback Matt Ryan yet another target. I mean the way people are defending us, and having to adjust to where Julio Jones is at, coverage is going to allow other guys to step up and make a lot of plays.

Last week, Roddy White stated that he just wants to win and wants to help the team any way he can; but earlier this week, an ESPN report painted a picture that White had become disallusioned with his role with the Falcons, and may want out.

Reading between the lines, it does sound as if Roddy White is somewhat unhappy, but knows that his desire to win is tantamount to any selfish want to get the ball.

Since the National Football League went to its current playoff format 25 years ago, teams that start a season 4-0 have advanced to the playoffs 83 percent of the time. “The best training camp you’ve ever had?’ A lot of guys took that challenge right to heart and said, ‘Yeah, I can do that”.

“We’ve got a long way to go”, Ryan said, “a long way to go”.

“She played such a big role in me being where I am today, so it was important for me to be there with her”, he said.
