Fallen lions Spurs must rediscover their Stoke swagger

In addition, they have managed to tie down manager Mauricio Pochettino and playmaker Christian Eriksen to new long-term deals, showing the existing squad has faith in the direction the club is heading.

The rise of Harrison could be the explanation as to why Pochettino has felt the need not to rush in to buying cover for Harry Kane in the forward position, given that Harrison could be earmarked as a possible option other than summer signing Vincent Janssen. However, he will certainly miss the Stoke game.

“I think Mark Hughes is a manager who changed a lot, the culture and philosophy that Stoke played before”, the Spurs boss said.

We take a look at three players now giving Pochettino reason to ponder.

“I was happy before in the last few days (of the window) with the squad we had then and when we add three players [in the] last few days”.

Considered over-physical in the past, Stoke are changing that tag while Pochettino has been keen to add steel to his own squad at White Hart Lane. He’s got a lovely manner with him and I’m a big fan of his.

Pochetinno was similarly delighted to have persuaded Eriksen that his future lies with the Lilywhites, saying: “It was important for him and important for the club”.

“It stops the rumours and he can be focused on playing football only”.

It’s led some to speculate that he’ll be rested for Spurs’ first Champions League match against Monaco on Wednesday at Wembley.

A visit back to Stoke may just be what the club needs given its most recent trip there ended in such jubilation, but with Monaco to come in the Champions League on Wednesday, a confidence-boosting victory is nearly imperative to finally kick Kane and his teammates into gear.

With Kane in the midst of a goal drought which is starting to resemble that of the start of last season, Pochettino was unfazed about his prospects for the rest of this one.

Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible following the worldwide break, while Stoke are desperate to get points on the board after two defeats and a draw in their opening three matches. “It is always hard and the expectation is massive but he is more mature and more experienced and I have no doubt he is going to score before long”.
