Fallen Officers honoured in Edmonton
Families, colleagues, senior officials and politicians joined a congregation of 1,200 people in Edinburgh for National Police Memorial Day.

Officers, retired police and mourning family gathered at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building this morning to remember those who died on the job.
Flags are flying at half-mast in both Victoria and Ottawa in honour of those who have died in the line of duty, and a parade will be taking place on Parliament Hill in Ottawa at 11:00 a.m. local time. Thinking about those who have fallen can be hard, but the support shown in the attendance of not only those in the policing community, but the public as well. Joe Cusker was pulled from the wreckage alive but later died in hospital.
Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “I am honoured to have been asked to make the opening remarks of welcome at this year’s National Police Memorial Day Service”.
Officers and dignitaries paid tribute to the 20 Newfoundland and Labrador officers from all across the province who have died between 1861 and today. “Daniel being the 100th officer as well, that made it a little more intense, but this year we have our two officers who have been killed in the line of duty”.
“Nothing we can say today, can take away the pain of your loss, but I hope you can take comfort in the legacy of service in their too short-time on the earth”.
The service will be held at the worldwide Conference Centre.
Mr Nelis lit the flame for those from Scotland, with the prayer: “In the rising of the sun and in its going down, in the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we will remember them”.
