Fallout 4’s Boston Setting Was Decided Before Skyrim Was Finished

In addition to Hines’ revelations regarding the game’s Boston setting, Bethesda also divulged fresh information about Fallout 4’s romance, perk, and companion details at QuakeCon. Are they really trying to make it as limited as possible to create some sense of exclusivity?

Even Bethesda had not expected such success for this Collector’s Edition, which actually exceeded the other collector’s editions made in the past by the company: “We made a s**tload of Pip-Boys, and we went back and made more, and went back and made more”. In a recent GameSpot interview, Bethesda Marketing VP Pete Hines spoke about the extent of customization they’ll offer in the new Fallout. “This is as long as we can run the lines and as many of them as we can make.'” Hines said, claiming that Bethesda’s goal is not to make the Collector’s Edition extremely rare.

“We’d go back to [the factories] and say, ‘Demand for this is insane, we’ve got to make more, ‘” Hines said. What’s more, the factories responsible for manufacturing the accessory will be working flat out to fill the orders to date, and they’re not going to be making anymore.

You can pre-order Fallout 4 on Xbox One, PS4 or PC now from Amazon. Alternatively, there’s a seller on Etsy who produces a number of 3D props and merchandise who has created a variety of Fallout-themed goodies, including a Pip-Boy replica capable of holding all but the largest smartphones.

The answer is: it wants to, but just can’t make any more Pip-Boys.

As Collector’s Edition extras go there hasn’t been much better than a real-life Pip-Boy. “I keep seeing stuff about, ‘Oh, you only did a few thousand”.

If you didn’t nab one of the special editions of Fallout 4 during its very small release window, then you may well be finding yourself without one of your very own.
