False gunfire reports at LAX airport prompt evacuations
Widespread travel chaos, evacuations and reports of an active shooter on the loose at LAX airport in Los Angeles may have been sparked by a man dressed as Zorro and brandishing a plastic sword, USA authorities have said.

All roads on the arrival and departure levels in the central terminal area also were reopened to traffic late Sunday.
Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5, as well as the Tom Bradley International Terminal, were evacuated by the police, the airport said.
Many passengers, however, were “being screened by explosive detection K-9 units” before being allowed to enter the terminals for re-screening, she said, adding that reports “of an active shooter at LAX were unfounded”.

A 30-minute ground stop was also issued on the south runway, which was requested because scared passengers self-evacuated onto the restricted tarmacs. American’s terminal was one of those evacuated. The man stated he was on the phone calling for transportation from the airport when police told him to get on the ground.

Police from the Port Authority of NY and New Jersey evacuated the terminal out of caution, spokesman Joe Pentangelo said.
