Hundreds of residents came out to Kirby Park in San Angelo on Saturday for the Walk MS San Angelo.

Walk MS is an opportunity for people living with MS and those who care about them to connect, and raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

This weekend over 19 walks for MS took place in Minnesota and North Dakota. The disease is two to three times more common in women than in men, according to the site.

The disease doesn’t have any cure, but there are medications to slow it down.

One of Fran’s teammates, Lu Kamrowski, of McGregor, set the record for funds at this year’s walk by raising $6,715.

So far, over $30,000 has been raised, but the Mankato area Walk MS expects to near their goal of $50,000 with donations that still have to be counted.

“Carries Not MSing Around” was emblazoned on shirts worn by Carrie Urbauer and her family and friends, who were taking part in the walk for the second year, having raised more than $1,500 last year.

“Most people would get walked out”, he said.
