Family, acting workshops kept Abhay away from Bollywood

Plus, you’ve watched the hilarious trailer, so you’re expecting another brilliant piece of cinema from Rai’s company. You may find some scenes repeated, or “inspired” from other films, but Happy Bhag Jayegi has a amusing tone to it. Eventually, you leave the auditorium hugely disappointed.

According to the reports, the film was not allowed to make it to the theaters in Pakistan. But she clarifies that “it wasn’t a fairness product”. So we wonder how and why Rai could go so wrong.

Wonder what Aziz had in mind, for even when one pens a script for a romantic comedy, surely one doesn’t expect sudden jolts to justify the union of the film’s lead characters.

But the real scenestealer in “Happy Bhaag Jayegi” is the Pakistani stunner Momal Sheikh who plays Bilal’s career-convenient but completely devoted fiancée with such finesse and understanding! Towards the end of the film, Guddu too, discovers, not to his surprise, but to his amusement, that Bilal has a soft corner for Happy, and guess what? And here we have three men smitten by her.

Directed by Mudassar Aziz and starring Diana Penty, Abhay Deol, Ali Fazal and Jimmy Shergill, Happy Bhag Jayegi has found itself in the midst of a rather unwanted controversy. The Abhay Deol & ‪Ali Fazal have given their best performance in the movie.

The worst thing is, Abhay Deol is kept at bay and one wishes the romance in him was put on an overdrive. The jilted groom (Bagga) and her forlorn lover (Guddu) are desperate to find her, while she is scheming her comeback with a newfound Pakistani friend (Bilal Ahmed). Happy warns of demolishing Bilal’s family image. On the other hand, her father has arranged her marriage with Daman Singh Bagga (Jimmy Shergil).

Undoubtedly, Happy is a direct descendent of Kareena Kapoor’s Geet in Imtiaz Ali’s “Jab We Met”, except that this runaway bride from Punjab lands up in Pakistan and providentially misses out on the heartbreak and betrayal that Geet had to go through because of her self-willed behaviour. While talking to Indian media she told “I am blessed to be getting a good story, good role, a good director and producer”.

The script by writer-director Mudassar Aziz seems to lose steam at the precise moment the story starts to get interesting. He has completely missed the boat as far as comedy is concerned. And majority are brought on by the “neighbour”. Also, the critics going to be so average for the movie for sure. The songs are well placed and complement the narration. Background score has enthralled the audience. She is the weakest link in the film. Piyush Mishra tries to make you laugh but fails due to poor writing. Javed Sheikh does justice to his role.
