Charlotte’s police chief says there is at least one video from a body camera and one other video from a dashboard camera that captured the deadly shooting of a black man by an officer.
The officer says he fired after Keith Lamont Scott exited his vehicle with a gun in his hand and repeatedly refused to comply with commands, one of which was to drop the gun.
“I think there will be some people that do not have the trust level the police would like them to have”, he said, “so they might jump to a conclusion without any further evidence and say that gun was not his, so obviously they dropped it here because his wife did say he doesn’t have a gun”.
“It’s going to come out no matter what”, he said.
The smartphone video does not conclusively answer the question of whether he was armed or not.

Max Geron, a major with the Dallas police department who has studied police responses to protests, said officials should generally release as much information as possible. It is about 2 minutes and 30 seconds long.
