Family of Oregon campus gunman ‘deeply saddened’

New details emerging about the gunman who opened fire at Umpqua Community College in Oregon on Thursday reveal that he had previously been turned away from a private firearms academy.

Despite a few reports to the contrary, McGowan said Harper-Mercer didn’t appear to target Christians in particular.

The post made no mention of a shooting, Umpqua Community College, or Roseburg, but did include a photo of a crudely drawn frog with a gun used regularly in Internet memes.

The teen said he tried to avoid any eye contact with the mass murderer so as not to stand out, and believes Harper-Mercer may have shot himself during the gun battle with police that killed the psycho. He also died Thursday in a shootout with police.

He said several wounded students walked towards him that morning outside Snyder Hall.

“These families are now living through (a) nightmare in the most personal way possible”, he said. Kim’s daughter Shannon was also a student at Umpqua and was on campus at the time of the shooting but at a different location. While she lay bleeding on the floor, the gunman called out to her, “Hey you, blond woman”, her mother said. “I guess (my recollection) is different from what people are saying”.

Lucas Eibel wore glasses and was among the students killed. They huddled together behind backpacks and chairs, underneath tables.

USA senator Ron Wyden, Oregon’s senior senator, said: “As a country we can not just shrug our shoulders and move on”. One of those victims was 33-year-old Jason Johnson, who was in his first week at the school. “We didn’t know what was going to happen, if those were our last words or not”.

Oregon’s top federal prosecutor told The Oregonian newspaper that authorities had heard rumors that the gunman had issued “some sort of race-related manifesto” before the shooting. The substance of their message, nearly uniformly, read something like this: “My thoughts and prayers are with victims and their families, and those brought to grief by this terrible tragedy”. She also said that authorities had recovered a steel-plated flak jacket with five magazines of ammunition lying next to a rifle at the scene of the attack.

He told CNN that two patients died while being transported to a hospital. “Once I receive the case, I will do a thorough review and make a determination on whether the use of force was justified”, he said. The extent of their injuries was not known.

The three patients who needed additional care were transferred to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.

“I’ve been waiting to do this for years”, the gunman told the professor teaching the class. He shot him point blank, Boylan recounted. Dietz loved the outdoors, her two Great Pyrenees dogs, her family and worked as a caretaker for many years at the pyrenees Vineyards in Myrtle Creek, Ore.

The writings include feelings of anger about being isolated and unable to form relationships, law enforcement officials said. Harper-Mercer killed nine people and wounded nine others.

“This is so out of character for this whole area”, he said.

The crowd gathered around 8 p.m.at Stewart Park in the city about 180 miles south of Portland.
