This morning, political leaders and citizens responded to last night’s sniper shooting of police officers in Dallas during a demonstration prompted by the recent killings of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling by police in Minnesota and Louisiana.

The demonstrators shouted “No justice! No peace!” while a line of police in riot gear looked on.

The police chief added the cornered man said he was acting alone and wasn’t affiliated with any groups. “That’s why I don’t want them to go to the police station”, he said. “I have confidence in the men and women working to protect the people of this city, their moral ethic, the skills they possess, and their ability to make appropriate decisions in hard situations”.

Sterling was black, while both officers are white.

Her comments were posted hours after an ambush attack in Dallas, Texas on Thursday night (07Jul16) left five police officers dead and seven others wounded. He said he was at the demonstrations Friday as well to help keep demonstrators away from police.
