Family of slain Louisiana man Alton Sterling denounces Dallas police deaths
Lael Montgomery of Baton Rouge was at the convenience store where Sterling was shot.

Ky Thomas, also 21, said she avoided previous demonstrations following police shootings – but not for a lack of understanding. “I’m under arrest y’all”, McKesson announced as onlookers asked, “Why is he being arrested?” McKesson appears to be brought to the ground.
McKesson reportedly said in a text message from police custody that he and 33 others were in custody together. They haven’t been shutting down traffic. It’s unclear if he is facing any charges.
For several days, people have gathered across Baton Rouge to participate in rallies and vigils to remember Sterling, who was killed in an officer-involved shooting early Tuesday morning.
Mckesson came to public attention in 2014 protesting police brutality after the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
The demonstrators shouted “No justice!” Some drivers even stopped by with bottles of water for the protesters.
In Phoenix, police officers dressed in riot gear deployed pepper spray as crowds got heated and reached the police barricade. Protesters armed themselves with rebar from a nearby construction site, pointed lasers and fired fireworks at law enforcement officers, St. Paul police told WCCO.
Center for Media Justice director Malkia Cyril defended the Black Lives Matter movement, saying it “advocates dignity, justice and freedom, not the murder of cops”. A police spokesman said there were at least 20 arrests.
The Dallas protest came in response to police shootings, including the one in which 37-year-old Alton Sterling was killed Tuesday in Baton Rouge during a struggle with two police officers outside a convenience store where he was selling CDs. We don’t want anybody hurt here, we don’t want any of the officers hurt. Officials claimed to have made attempts to communicate with rally organizers and were under the impression the protest was ending before the arrests were made.
“We’re still grieving for the loss of Alton, and this happens less than 24 hours later”, said Artiyana McGee, a 20-year-old student who stood among the protesters Thursday night with her mother, Dawn.
According to internal affairs documents released Thursday, the two police officers involved in Sterling’s death had four previous “use of force” complaints lodged against them and were cleared in all of them.
“At this point… there were 74 arrests for disorderly conduct”.
Mark Armstrong, a reporter with WBRZ News, also tweeted an image that he said showed a WAFB employee being arrested.
About 400 people covered a city block as marchers moved across a large area of northwest Washington and headed toward the Georgetown neighborhood.
Hundreds of protesters marched from City Hall to Union Square in NY.
The protesters chanted, “No justice, no peace!” and “Y’all have guns”.
After a tumultuous and tragic week in the US, there have been reports of arrests at protests in Baton Rogue, Louisiana on Saturday. A separate rally took place at the Louisiana state capitol.
A police officer who hasn’t been trained to recognize his own internal biases is more likely to see a black man as a threat.
Meanwhile, in Dallas, where a lone gunman shot dead five police officers, a suspicious man was spotted in the police headquarters Saturday evening.

We wholeheartedly reject the reprehensible acts of violence that were perpetrated against members of the Dallas Police Department. Afterward, Muflahi said he saw the officer pull the gun from Sterling’s pocket.
