“But I chose this path and I knew this was probably going to happen at some point in time that you slowly fade away out of that category and that exemption area”. He finished tied for 30th in the tournament at 4-under.
“That feels like birdie there today”, Stricker said. Stricker has said he is playing a little less this year as a precaution. “Good question”, he said.
Stricker said he won’t likely tee it up again this year until the Franklin Templeton Shootout in December, an unofficial event. “So it might be a good trip to make early on”.
The sixth shot finally bounced on to the green and left Johnson 20 feet from the hole. He didn’t have a par until the seventh hole and finished the day with two back-nine eagles, six birdies, three bogeys and that quad.
“I wish I would have been a couple shots better or maybe even pick one off and got to 4-under or something like that, that would have been nicer”, Stricker said after his round. “But still played a pretty special round today”.
Johnson was the leader after a first-round 66 Thursday, but he shot a 73 Friday before rebounding with a 68 and 69 on the weekend.
Whistling Straits has evacuated the course due to weather concerns. It dropped him out of the lead and out of a chance to take part in a playoff won by Martin Kaymer.

While he doesn’t ask his wife much about wind direction or club selection, Stricker said Nicki helps him more with the mental side of the game.
