A fan at Yankee Stadium showed off quite an arm – too bad for All-Star outfielder Brett Gardner.

They didn’t just beat the Yankees, against whom the Blue Jays are 7-2 this year, they suffocated them. The Yankees meanwhile, limp off to their next series in Cleveland wondering what just happened, and knowing, as Alex Rodriguez said, that they need to turn things around fast, before the Blue Jays leap past them. The Yankees, though, were beaten by the Blue Jays 2-0 as Toronto completed a three-game series sweep and pulled to within 1.5 games of the Yankees in the AL East. They now have risky men all over the pitch who can produce offence from any position.

Gardner sustained a minor bump on his head, but did not come out of the game and said he was fine afterward. Pennington was obtained during Saturday’s game and is expected to see time at second base and occasionally shortstop.

Davis’s fourth home run in four games came off recent teammate Jonathan Broxton, whom the Cardinals acquired July 31, and wiped out Matt Carpenter’s a three-run homer in the seventh that gave St. Louis a 4-3 lead.

The Pirates won for the fifth time in six games and the 15th time in their last 18 at PNC Park. I mean, how many holidays do they get up there anyway? “I’m not sure”, Gardner said, jokingly.

“This isn’t going to be comfortable the rest of the way”, Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira said. 422 with 11 home runs, six doubles and 15 RBIs during the streak.

“This is definitely the time of year when you want to start playing your best baseball”, said Josh Donaldson, who along with Bautista homered in the first and third games of the series (accounting for the Jays’ only four runs in the two wins). He said right now he expects it to be someone currently on the staff, making RHP Bryan Mitchell and perhaps Warren the most likely candidates.

Jesse: Toronto also added a couple of ex-Twins in Ben Revere and LaTroy Hawkins – both are fantastic guys and nice role players to supplement your roster, I think. “It helps me having great hitters around you, not only behind you but you’ve got Tulu [Tulowitzki] in front”.

-Inspirational comeback by the Lions over the Eskimos last week and, while the win should not be overlooked, it did underscore a troublesome issue with this team. “We’ve got everything. When you’re out there pitching, it gives you all the confidence in the world”.
