FanDuel says NYAG has New York gambling law all wrong

It is unknown what will happen after that time expires. “We’re going to use every avenue we can to stay open”. It says there’s been an increased overall consumption of US sports in a “virtuous circle” on TV, Internet, print and social media and that DFS has successfully managed to thrust itself into that dynamic.

FanDuel and DraftKings, two similar organizations that provide sports fans an outlet to place wagers on their favorite players and teams, have been ordered to stop allowing their ny customers to spend money on their fantasy services.

During the emergence of daily fantasy sports, leagues profited financially and benefited from the increased engagement and exposure the sites provides.

The pair still live in the Scottish capital, although the site’s headquarters are in NY.

The industry has five days to persuade Schneiderman, who’s a Democrat, to defer legal action. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, on the other hand, said in a late October statement that daily fantasy sports is “the only unregulated gambling operation in the country”.

Did the massive advertising campaigns for daily fantasy sports (DFS) backfire by drawing too much attention to a controversial pasttime?

The trade publication Legal Sports Report said Wednesday that the vendor, Vantiv LLC, sent the request to several fantasy sports companies that read, in part: “We must require you to immediately stop accepting players from NY”. The company launched a petition on Twitter Tuesday.

I don’t know the best way for DK and FD to defend their territory. Government shouldn’t decide what games they can play.

Grandmont: “I think there’s skill involved”.

“I don’t want to lose my money”, he said. Local attorney Paul Hardin said it will come down to whether or not it’s a game of skill or gambling. Another option would be to bring criminal charges, though the attorney general hasn’t threatened that type of action. A smaller operator, DraftPot, announced Tuesday that it would remain operating in NY, tweeting the hashtag #FantasyForAll alongside a link to Jay Z’s song “Empire State of Mind”. Many permit betting on contests that depend more on skill than chance.

While the sites have opted not to do business in a handful of states, including Washington where regulators have made clear theyre not welcome, they have been up and running in a number of others — like NY — where theyre legally dubious.

DraftKings and FanDuel were, not surprisingly, furious over the decision, and in a statement from DraftKings, the company applauded legislation proposed earlier in IL that looks to regulate, rather than eliminate, daily fantasy sports. These winners constitute roughly 1 percent of all players on the two sites. “Yes. [The ad campaign] definitely put us on everyone’s radar”. This is the new form of fantasy sports.

First we should get good and pissed off.

“Is there material element of chance?” Like, say, football players’ stat lines. “If there is material evidence of luck it’s still illegal”.

“NY Attorney General Schneiderman reminding us of the breathtaking hypocrisy of state lotteries”.

Yet the attorney general said only daily games were illegal, not the seasonal leagues that have been popular for decades.

Schneiderman said they were in violation of state law against illegal gambling because customers “are clearly placing bets on events outside of their control or influence”. “In the gambling world, that never works out well”.

Which amendment is that again
