Last season, Harvick led 264 of 312 laps to springboard into the final race at Homestead, where he roared to his first Sprint Cup crown in the first year of the new-look Chase format. All of the other six Chase drivers (not including Jeff Gordon, who is already locked into a berth at Homestead) can potentially reach the final round depending upon where they are in the standings.

If four straight wins at Phoenix global Raceway doesn’t tell the story of how good Kevin Harvick is on the one-mile track in the desert, then odds further up north in the Las Vegas desert should. “Then you have to figure out who you’re racing after that to know what you have to do in order to point your way through”. It’s very possible the two drivers with the most wins on the season in Johnson and Logano won’t have a chance to run for the title. Should someone now alive in the Eliminator Round beside Gordon win they’d automatically clinch a spot in the title race.
