Today marks 35 years since John Lennon’s death.
His killer, Mark David Chapman, is serving a prison sentence of 20 years to life. “I am sorry for being such an idiot and choosing the wrong way for glory”, Chapman told the parole according to a report by NBC News. He has been denied parole eight times and remains behind bars.
Over the weekend, some of country music’s heavyweights paid tribute to John Lennon at “Imagine: John Lennon 75th Birthday Concert” at Madison Square Garden in NY.
It was 35 years ago today that John Lennon was murdered in front of his wife outside his home.
In 2010, Chapman said that he considered shooting Elizabeth Taylor or Johnny Carson. Almost a quarter of a million people converged on Central Park for a vigil.
It will be of little comfort to anyone who knew and loved his music but John Lennon had been doing much of what he loved most on the day he died. When Lennon appeared shortly before 11 p.m., Chapman opened fire with a Charter Arms.38-caliber pistol.

On Dec. 8, 1980, ABC began the network’s late-night news program with the news that the Beatles star had been shot three times. “Hard to go back to the game after that news flash, which in duty bound, we have to take”, said Cosell, the Monday Night Football commentator.
“Obviously the man was waiting for him”, Sergeant Barnes said of the assailant. “Lennon arrived in the company of his wife and the assailant fired”.
“Significant damage was done to the major vessel in the chest”, Dr. Lynn said. “I’m shot.” The security guard called for help. “His house is less than a mile away from the hospital and I don’t think it was possible to rescue him by any means”.

The tragic murder of the former Beatle was a heavy blow, not just to all those living in Liverpool.
