Fans line up for Sydney Star Wars premiere

This Thursday, December 18th, at midnight, many fans are likely going to be watching the Star Wars premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

For the most part, the acting is fantastic, especially from the newcomers. I went into that theatre a young Star Wars fanatic – the proud owner of a hundred action figures, reciter of dialogue and watcher of VHS tapes.

J.J. Abrams did not seem to nervous about the film’s critical reception: “I feel very confident about the work that was done by the actors”.

Driver, best known for his role in Girls, plays Kylo Ren in the film.

I’m not sure I was sold on the film’s other villains: Andy Serkis as the computer generated Supreme Leader Snoke, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux and Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma. “There’s been a real buzz amongst both customers and the staff here – the Force is definitely strong at Lighthouse”.

Mr Duxbury said he loved the interaction between the characters, and how human some of the droids and other species felt, and he was hooked to Star Wars from the start and he hoped his daughters would enjoy the same feelings this time around.

The trio were joined by an army of Stormtroopers plus C-3PO, R2-D2 and BB-8.

In addition, original actors such as Ford, Fisher, and Hamill are returning rather than the new film being carried by a cast of newbies to the franchise.

Between letting us know where most of the key figures of the original trilogy are and introducing some more for the trilogy to come, there is a lot of ground to cover, and the at times frenetic pace can obscure a few leaps of logic here and there.

The Force Awakens presents a golden opportunity for fathers who want to bond with their kids. You’ll be present at what is genuinely the opening of a new chapter in film history. “Force” is directed by J.J. Abrams of the “Star Trek” film series and written by “Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” co-writer Lawrence Kasdan, “Toy Story 3” writer Michael Arndt, and Abrams.

Nyong’o was only told Abrams was working on a “big movie”, and didn’t even get to read from the Star Wars script during the audition, only reading substitute pages from a different screenplay instead.

In the second event, a Minifigs and Bricks Star Wars Lego speed-build competition will be held from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Although as you can see from my totally-too-smily photo above, it’s not as easy as it looks to find one that looks convincing.
