‘Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them’ Movie Release Date, Cast & Plot

Because the film is set within the hustle and bustle of NYC, it will feel more modern than the fantastical Potter films, even though it’s set 70 years before Harry steps onto the scene. One of the reasons cited is that much of Dumbledore’s early life is only known to the author herself, so introducing him in movies will give fans perspective on what was his life was about before he became the well-respected Hogwarts wizard. This means more beasts and adventures to come. Tons of new information about J.K. Rowling’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” film has been revealed, including the plot and a first look at the cast, as well as Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander.

Eccentric magizoologist Newt Scamander…comes to NY (for a reason we won’t disclose) with his trusty weathered case. (Wait, is that even the right plural tense?) The Salem witch trials were a majorly devastating part of wizarding history, and now there’s a new group for our heroes to contend with-the New Salem Philanthropic Society, who are attempting to expose all wizards on US soil. After all, it is a movie about a wizard studying beasts and magical creatures for a living.

In the same way Rowling’s Potter films centered around the trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, Fantastic Beasts will focus on four protagonists, including the aforementioned Newt, as well as Tina (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol), and Jacob (Dan Fogler). Jacob, a No-Maj (the American term for Muggle) will be the “Harry Potter” franchise’s first non-magic main character.

We’re sure to see more of the MACUSA in the film, as the impressive golden set is featured on the cover of Entertainment Weekly (note the seal Scamander is standing on) and because Colin Farrell will be playing Graves, the “right-hand man” of America’s magical president.

At this point, all the official images and descriptions are missing one key element for a movie called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: the actual beasts. Directed by David Yates, it will release in U.S. on December 18, 2016. According to the Examiner, the other two sequels will be coming out on 2018 and 2020.
