Box Office Mojo’s forecast now puts “Fantastic Four” on the path to a $27 million opening weekend.

Check back over the weekend for updates on the last superhero movie of the summer.

What do you think of the new movie? By all accounts, this should have been a good movie; in addition to its comics pedigree, it boasts a fantastic young cast and a director who has experience making character-driven, critically acclaimed superhero films.

The film was expected by box-office tracker Rentrak to bring in somewhere in the low -million range.

In a now-deleted tweet, the director said, “A year ago I had a fantastic version of this”.

The reviews for Fantastic Four have been less than impressive, with the new movie being slated by fans and critics alike, which has led to Josh Trank speaking out about the film.

With Fantastic Four now sitting at a 10% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s hard to imagine what issues 20th Century Fox might of had with Trank’s original vision. “Since this movie has no dimension at all, everyone is envious of the monkey”.

Though Trank usually stays out of the media spotlight (there are very few pictures of him online), maybe one day we’ll hear more about this alternate version of Fantastic Four that he appears to be more proud of.

It’s now estimated that Fantastic Four will gross around $12 million on Friday, with the $2.7 million from Thursday night. However, days before the director was to begin filming, Fox pulled the rug from under Trank’s feet by taking out several big set pieces.

Trank previously directed the found footage movie Chronicle for Fox and was attached to a Star Wars Anthology film before departing the project earlier this year.
