‘Fantastic Four’ flops at box office in US and globally
Those highly expensive films weren’t able to escape the shadow of Sam Raimi’s original trilogy, which still stands as something of a classic in the comic book movie genre (even if “Spider-Man 3” is a mess).

20th Century Fox’s X Men: Days of Future Past received stellar reviews last year and this is from the same studio that made Fantastic Four. “He may claim that his cut a year ago was unbelievable, but that opinion was not shared by the majority of the people working on the film“, McWeeny wrote. Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Michael B. Jordan are the exact kind of talented, rising young actors you want to anchor a franchise, and Trank was completely right to fight for them.
To be clear, “Fantastic Four” is in no uncertain terms a disaster, creatively, financially, and by most any other metric you can imagine.
Fox’s domestic distribution chief, Chris Aronson, said (via The Hollywood Reporter): “While we’re disappointed, we remain committed to these characters and we have a lot to look forward to in our Marvel universe”.
As of writing, the movie had 154 reviews in RT and every single sentence include a not-so-good feedback and according to Screenrant, it has solidified itself as the worst reviewed film (based on Tomatometer) against all the movies released with a license from Marvel. A box office analyst told The Wrap that his online outburst might have cost the film $5 million to $10 million.
Where things stand right now is that Fox has currently slated a sequel for June 2, 2017. In the end however, the poor quality and poor word of mouth may be the most significant contributing factor for the movie’s results. “The Gift” is the first film release from STX Entertainment. Even the 2007 Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer outperformed Fantastic Four, with a $58.05 opening weekend.

Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” was No. 1 for the second straight weekend, making $29.4 million.
