Because the injury is to Kipnis’s throwing shoulder, manager Terry Francona had Kipnis serve as the designated hitter on Friday and Saturday. We’ll talk to Shick (head team physician Dr. Mark Schickendantz) and the trainers.

Kipnis has been one of the very few offensive pluses this year for the Indians as he’s batted. “We’ll put our heads together and see what we want to do about it”.

The 28-year-old missed Sunday’s game against the Oakland Athletics and returned to Cleveland to undergo an MRI, which determined he required a stint on the DL. Named to his second All-Star game this past July, it is clear that Kipnis has to be mentioned as one of the best second baseman in baseball now.

The Indians also called up left-hander Kyle Crockett from Columbus and demoted left-hander Michael Roth to Triple-A. Kipnis is having a career season and leads the American league in plate appearances (468) hits (132) and doubles (31). After reaching in his first three at-bats, Chisenhall extended a streak to reaching base seven times over the final three days in Oakland.
