“Fantasy” becomes reality for City of Mobile

The Fantasy, which is now subject to a multimillion-dollar refurbishment, will be setting sail from the Alabama Cruise Terminal for four-and-five-day cruises to ports in Mexico starting in November 2016.

The initial term of the contract between the city and Carnival Cruise Lines is a 13-month agreement beginning November 2016 and ending December 2017.

In a newsletter sent out by the Mayor’s office Tuesday, Stimpson wrote, “A few weeks ago, I announced that we were in the final stages of contract negotiations with Carnival for future cruises from Mobile”.

Carnival Fantasy is one ship cited as possibly destined for year-round service from the Port of Mobile, AL, although no announcement has yet been made. “We are building something special in Mobile, and this renewed partnership is evidence of that momentum”. Local travel agent Steve Cape was fielding calls this morning and because of all of the excitement surrounding the return of Carnival he expects the cruises to fill up fast. Carnival’s departure left Mobile with an empty passenger terminal, which has been used for dances, weddings and other events. Each of these destinations are popular for their attractive white sand beaches, interesting historical sites and attractions, and excellent snorkeling, scuba diving and water sports.

But before she arrives in Alabama the 2,056-passenger ship will undergo a complete overhaul that will bring her up to code with the line’s Fun Ship 2.0 fleet.

Located adjacent to Guy’s Burger Joint is the BlueIguana Cantina offering authentic handmade burritos and tacos along with an elaborate toppings and salsa bar.

In addition to the bars and restaurants, the Carnival Fantasy will also feature a massive spa, a water park, an adults-only retreat, casino gambling and more.
