Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has said that Louis van Gaal’s “unwavering belief in his methods” is one of the main reasons as to why the club have supposedly made a decision to disperse of his services.

On Monday morning, reports intensified.

“I am very disappointed to be unable to complete our intended three-year plan”, he said.

“Who to blame? Not Van Gaal”. Hoek is believed to have fallen out with United’s best player David de Gea to the extent that the Spanish goalkeeper was considering forcing a transfer had van Gaal and his team stayed.

United insisted that he was referring purely to the season being “over” – not his reign as manager.

Van Gaal took control of United after leading the Netherlands to the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“Which manager can do that, what I have done?”

“Finally, my special thanks go to Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton for always making me and my family feel so welcome throughout my time as Manchester United manager”.

Fans were also unhappy with the brand of football their team played under Van Gaal.

Ryan Giggs’ future at United is up in the air despite Mourinho’s wish to keep the Welshman at the club.

United qualified for the Champions League in Van Gaal’s first season, but had to settle for fifth in the top flight this year, leaving them in next term’s Europa League.

Van Gaal, on the other hand said he was impressed with Mourinho, saying: “José was a little bit arrogant but I like that. I would hope he gets the best because Rashford is right up there with some of the best young players we have seen coming out of England”.

“Thank you to the owners and board of Manchester United for giving me the opportunity to manage this great club, ” he concluded.

“If they want to use my knowledge, my management, I shall continue”.
