Farrell tells Red Sox they’re better than they’re showing

On Monday, Snell followed the five-run first by retiring the Red Sox in order in the second inning on 10 pitches.

The Tampa Bay Rays ended their 11-game losing streak Monday, tagging Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez for nine runs in the first three innings and cruising to a 13-7 win at Tropicana Field.

The utility infielder had his first three hits of the season and drove in a career-high five runs Monday night, helping the Rays end an 11-game skid with a 13-7 victory over the Boston Red Sox. “As far as I know, it’s all rumors until that person comes out and says that was from them and they can prove that they actually know who I am or have been around me long enough to know who I am and how I am as a person”. “We saw tonight that sometimes it takes that type of performance to break out of a funk”. A lot of questions have to be answered when you’re not playing well, and I think they handled it pretty admirably given the fact what we’ve gone through and the effort level stayed consistent.

Tampa Bay has slowly faded away into the bottom of the American League East standings. During a third-inning mound visit, team leader Dustin Pedroia tried to motivate the struggling pitcher to no avail.

“I think we were just going out and having fun”, Franklin said. Rodriguez has been giving up too many home runs with seven in 26 innings. Only two other times has another Red Sox starter allowed at least nine runs while recording five outs or less.

E-Rod’s outing, which resulted in the southpaw getting demoted to Triple-A, also sparked a team meeting led by manager John Farrell. He gave up four more runs, including a leadoff homer by Desmond Jennings and a two-run shot by Logan Forsythe to give the Rays a 9-0 lead.

The Red Sox cut into Tampa Bay’s lead in the fourth and fifth. The young lefty yielded another run in the sixth, exiting after throwing 103 pitches.

David Ortiz collected his 1,703rd RBI, passing Reggie Jackson and moving into 24th place all-time. They’ll have to pick it up against the Rays who are heading in with a 3-1 record against opponents who give up that many walks or more. Logan Forsythe, Evan Longoria and Taylor Motter also had three-hit games. He’ll attempt to recapture that form with the Pawtucket Red Sox, with whom he has a 3.54 ERA. In the past 15 games, Boston has been outscored 22-0 in the first inning after outscoring its opponents 60-32 in the previous 61 games.

Tampa Bay president of baseball operations Matt Silverman said before the game that the entire organization – from coaches and players to the front office – shares responsibility for rough stretch that dropped the Rays a season-low 12 games under.500. “We’re all looking in the mirror trying to figure out what we can do to improve this, to right the ship, and all ideas are on the table”.
