Senior director of operations for the company, Jeff Graves, told KAKE that the employee was fired and the restaurant is even working with the Newton police on having an event to show their support for the department. Graves further said that the employee’s views in no way refelcted that of the company’s.

There is a photo depicting a derogatory term written on the food wrappers of one of our officers who stopped in to our local Taco Bell to pick up dinner for himself and his fiance last night.

A statement released earlier by the Newton Police Department said the photo caused “strong emotions to be voiced in opposition to one of our local businesses. Many of our restaurants give police discounts when they come in and eat”.

Graves said he reached out to the officer and the officer’s fiancé once he learned of the situation. “Our franchisee is a huge supporter of the police in the community, and has met with the lieutenant of the Newton Police to plan a community event to show his support”.

On Sunday afternoon, the Newton Police Department says someone unrelated to the department posted the photo of the burritos. The couple believed that the word referred to the officer’s work in law enforcement. “I advised her that we were both working and that wasn’t an option”.

“We understand the incident was the action of an individual, and do not hold ill will to Taco Bell or any of its employees, even the individual who wrote the message”, the statement continued.
