Current owners of the earlier Tesla Model S P90D can upgrade to the new 100 kWh battery for $20,000. That’s because each of those automakers have been shown up, just a little bit, by Tesla-which claims that the new Model S P100D can get to 60 miles per hour in a mere 2.5 seconds. Volkswagen is expected to reveal an all-electric vehicle in October that could have as much as 372 miles of range, and Porsche is working on a Tesla killer with 300 miles of range that could pop up in showrooms in 2019. Notably, only other cars faster than the Model S P100D Ludicrous are no longer on sale and cost over $1 million. It looks like the company has finally achieved a good battery time for its new cars.
DETROIT-Tesla Motors’s Model S electric vehicle is now the quickest production auto in the world from zero to 60 miles per hour. With the new range, driver would be able to travel from San Francisco to Los Angeles without recharging. Rated at 613km on the European Union cycle, Tesla says it becomes the longest range EV production vehicle in the world.
Production of the Model 3 is not expected to start until late 2017, thought more than 300,000 customers have already put down $1,000 reservations on the vehicle.
Both the new versions are available with a new battery pack that stretches the range between charges further than any electric vehicle has before. Those who haven’t taken delivery can upgrade for $10,000. But keeping in mind the fact that both of these limited production hypercars are already sold out, the Model S can indeed be termed as the fastest production vehicle now on sale.
Tesla has been working hard from the past few months in order to make the bigger batteries for cars that could provide greater mileage.
